SMALL BUDGET – BIG IMPACT

That pretty much sums us up. 10 years ago Emily and I built our house here in North Texas with budget in mind. We didn’t go for all the upgrades because we knew we could tackle a lot of those projects on our own while saving money and turning our house into our home with our style!

By day Emily is a homeschool mom of three and I am a professional visual media communicator. Before kids Emily was manager for a very popular home decor store and had many repeat clients that would seek her out to style their high end homes. Throughout her career Emily developed her own style that was heavily influenced by mid century modern design and she brings that touch into our home to this day.

Since I was a kid I loved building things. Being completely self taught I didn’t have access to many tools or money to purchase them, as a result I developed a way of looking at cheap materials and trying to figure out ways to create things affordably and with the tools I had at my disposal. I gained some construction experience at first by building skate ramps, and working for local builders doing sheet rock and has a hobby would build home theater speakers and plywood furniture.

After Emily and I bought our starter home I set about fixing and refinishing everything I could from baseboards, crown moulding, kitchen cabinets and even our bath rooms. As we would shop for home decor I would often times look at some of the pieces and say, “I can make that” and try to replicate them with some basic tools and materials I could find at the local Home Depot.

Since moving to our home 10 years ago we completed several projects and shared them on our own social media platforms. We were often asked how we did some of our projects and the more we shared the more were encouraged by friends and family to share our knowledge and experience with others, so we started EmyLuDesigns!
